CUSTARD APPLE

I have always referred to the custard apple as buah nona and I guess this applies to most Malaysians. It is also known as sweetsop and sugar apple. Anyway, I love to eat the fruit and have actually planted one behind the library but it is taking ages to bear fruit.
Do you know that the unripe fruit can be used to assist against diarrhea and dysentery. Even the bark of the tree can be used as medicine for the skin. The leaves are believed to have healing properties and have been used against tumours and cancers. The bark of the tree can also be used on gums to relieve toothaches.

A piece of invaluable knowledge. Thank you, Miss Cheah.
But I wonder has it be verified by medical experts what you mentioned about its medicinal values?
I only enjoy its sweet and milky taste only. It's true that it takes a long time to bear fruits.

Hi to Jiubo and jin1shu3,
I am glad you found my post on the buah nona interesting. If you happen to be in Manjung, do contact me and I'll give you a guided tour of the herb garden in my school and discuss their medicinal properties with you.
