I will feel disturbed and saddened each time I read a new article about Yammie Lam Kit Ying 藍潔瑛, a former star of the HK Television channel TVB. According to reports, this once beautful and glamorous star had been institutionalised before and was also reduced to soliciting in the streets to earn enough money for her own keep.
Read this excerpt I got about her from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lam_Kit_Ying:
Yammie has a history of mental problems that reportedly started after The Greed of Man when she played a insane person. It was said that she was unable to "get out" of her character.
In 1998, her parents died, she broke up with her boyfriend and she got into a car accident. She was admitted into a mental institution in 1999.
In 2006, she was spotted wandering around with blood stains on her skirt. It is believed she was menstruating. In 2007, Yammie was found wandering in the street smoking heavily and in her nightgown. Police later arrived after responding to a concerned pedestrian's call and sent her to Sheung Shui station. Yammie currently has no income, so she depends on her lawyer-friend Tsang Koon-Wai for money.

Actually how she looks now is not what has gotten me worried as she is already 44 years of age and besides she didn't appear to have any make-up on. I am sure many stars would look a lot plainer without the aid of cosmetics. What bothers me is her mental state and the lack of people who would want to care for her. There was a recent interview with her so called best friend who revealed that Yammie was once raped by the head honcho of the triads and also spurned by the lawyer-friend. This piece of news has not been verified and remains heresay.
According to the excerpt I got from Wikipedia, it appears that the lady started to become mentally unstable after portraying an insane character in a drama series and it is said that she could not get out of that character. Some say that she was jinxed. This is said to have happened to a few celebrities after they took on very difficult roles. One fine example is the late Leslie Cheung who went into depression and later committed suicide after he portrayed a character who had a similar fate. Even Vic Chou or Zai Zai was rumoured to have fallen into depression after he acted the part of the ghost in Linger. Now, I am not saying that every actor or actress that take on such roles would end up cuckoo, depressed or dead but there might be those whose personal spirit might be weak at the time and that was why they were overpowered by the characters that they played.
So, I end this piece by asking "Who is going to help Yammie get back on her feet again?" I wanna hear some good news about her.
