DOING THE BEST WITH WHAT THEY ARE BLESSED WITH

The farmer with the 20kg melon
Look at the giant winter melon that can be found in the garden of padi farmer, Ho Jun San and his wife, Teng De Dian. The melon was planted by the wife in the garden of their home in Sekinchan. This is not the first time that the plant bore fruit. A previous melon weighing 11kg fell of the branch due to its weight. It was later cut up and shared with relatives, friends and neighbours. For this second melon, they took precautions by tying a string and using a chair and sponges to support it.
Once the melon is ripe enough to be harvested, the couple have decided to donate it to any charitable organisation interested in auctioning it off to raise funds. This is because Ho felt they should do the best with what they were blessed with. That is a truly noble and charitable gestures.
