FLOWER OF LOVE

If you ask me what flower is associated with love, I'd most surely answer roses. But that is not the case. In actuality, the carnation is the one that is connected to love. Why? The carnation, is scientifically known as Dianthus caryophyllus. With its scientific name dianthus roughly which loosely translates to mean "flower of love".

Carnations could mean fascination, distinction, and love. As with many other flowers, different messages can also be expressed with the flower’s different color varieties.

  • Light red carnations=used to convey admiration
  • Dark red =expresses deeper sentiments of love and affection.
  • White carnations=associated with purity and luck.
  • Pink carnations=often given as a sign of gratitude.

In the early part of the 20th century, carnations became the official flower of Mother's Day.
