CHANGE AND COMFORT ZONE

Things sure will be a bit different after March 8th, 2008. I do not write about politics but somehow I know that after the results of the 12th general elections were announced, there will be changes in days to come.
What I want to blog about today is change and the comfort zone. When I was reading for my Masters degree at the university, I did a paper on the implementation of the teaching of Mathematics and Science in English. This dealt with the change in medium from Bahasa Melayu, Mandarin or Tamil to the English language to deliver the subject matter to the students. I found that due to this change, there were some people who were against this change as they were feeling secure in their comfort zones. Until today, there are still people who do not agree with the change in medium of instruction. Me? I am okay with any language to deliver the subject matter as long as the students will benefit from it.
Now, back to this thingy about change and breaking out of the comfort zone. Over time, we all gather a set of constricting habits around us—ones that trap us in a zone of supposed comfort, well below what our potential would allow us to attain. Pretty soon, such habits slip below the level of our consciousness, but they still determine what we think that we can and cannot do—and what we cannot even bring ourselves to try.
Well, folks let me tell you that life is like that. Just when we think that we are safe and secure. Whammo! The powers above send shock waves to drag us out from where we have lazily put ourselves. Therefore, in whatever we do, we must subscribe to the idea that we must be able to change and adapt in order to survive and move on.
