CHINESE NEW YEAR EVE

CNY eve was a very hectic one for me. In the morning, I drove my mum and aunt to the temple after I reached home at around 10.00 a.m. My mum wanted to offer prayers to the Jade Emperor and also to light oil lamps for my family for the new year. There were many people there and I noticed that many people had brought offerings of flowers and oranges. There were also 7 foot high dragon joss-sticks that would be lit after mid-night. When I was at the temple, the sifu there asked me to help him send some flowers to another temple in town. Before that, I had to send my mum home as she was very sick. My aunt went with me to send the flowers.
Later with the help of my aunt, I cleaned and tidied the house for new year's day. It was only at 8.30 p.m. that we managed to have our reunion dinner at Pizza Hut. We chose the Prosperity meal as it sounded auspicious. Furthermore, my mum wasn't feeling well and there were only the three of us which made rather tiresome to cook a meal at home. According to custom, my married sisters will have the reunion dinner with their husbands' families and so it would not be appropriate for them to join us.
