SPRING CLEANING
During the 12th lunar month, the Chinese will be busy making preparations to celebrate Chinese New Year. In many households, people will be busy cleaning, clearing, re-painting and decorating their houses. For the Chinese, especially the Taoist, there or certain days which are especially good for Spring Cleaning or House Cleaning. Eventhough we do not have the four seasons here in Malaysia, we still refer to the activity as Spring cleaning because the term was used by our ancesters who came from China and was passed on to us.
According to the Feng Shui masters, there are days and time to follow to carry out house cleaning and discard all unwanted items before the lunar New Year. This is to ensure that the coming year will be full of promising opportunities and good luck. There are two days known as the "Broken" and "Removed" in our lunar calendar. These two days would refer to clearing out old or damaged items. On this day, the altar is also cleaned along with the prayer paraphernalia on it.
