Li-Chun Day is when Spring begins. It falls either on 4th or 5th February each year. In 2007, the beginning of spring falls on the 17th day of the Lunar calendar at 8.09 a.m. (Malaysian time). Traditionally, the Taoist will perform a prayer ceremony to welcome the deities into their homes. The items offered to the deities and the prayer rituals are the same as for reception of the Wealth God on the first day of the lunar new year. The differences are the auspicious times and the animal signs in favour or in conflict with the day. But care must be taken when welcoming the Wealth God on this day as there is danger of welcoming Er-shen (a wicked entity) who would be at the same direction. Below is listed the best times for receiving this deity.
Auspicious Times: 1.00 - 3.00 a.m., 3.00 - 5.00 a.m. and 7.00 - 9.00 a.m. Those people born in the pig year who are aged 61 and 25 are in conflict with the day. Note that the age mentioned is according to Chinese calculations and so a year would be added to ones age.
** It is also auspicious to roll a box or a basket of Mandarin oranges (kum) into ones house to symbolise gold rolling in.
