AUSPICIOUS PLANTS FOR CNY

Here are some plants that many of us might have in our homes or have seen them in friends' gardens or at the markets. It is very possible that many do not know what they are called. Well, I have taken the trouble to find out the names of these plants. The first picture corresponds to the first explanation and so on until the last picture of the zamioculca plant.

AZALEA: It is called du juan hua in Chinese. It is a native of Belgium, Holland and Denmark. The flowers of this plant are pink or dark red in colour.

CHERRY:This plant from Malaysia bears lots of fruit and is favoured for that and its Chinese name is man tang hong, which literally means "the whole place is red".

FOUR SEASON LIME: The Chinese name for this plant is sijiju. It is auspicious because "ju" is also associated with the New Year.

KALANCHOE: This plant can be grown in Holland and Malaysia. Its auspicious Chinese name, wan zi qian hong, means tens of thousands of colours makes it a popular plant.

LUCKY BAMBOO: Known as kai yun zhu in Chinese, it comes from Taiwan and - as the name implies - is believed to bring fortune.

ZAMIOCULCA: This plant is a native of Taiwan. Its name is jing qian shu or gold tree. Its shiny, angular leaves are look somewhat like that of Chinese-style gold ingots, hence it is considered very auspicious for all occasions.
