RELEASING SKY LANTERNS
Yesterday was the twelfth day of the lunar new year. I invited Lai Yoong, Nancy and her two sons to Tua Pek Kong Temple at Pasir Panjang to release some Hoong Ming or Sky Lanterns. We write our wishes on the lanterns and wish that they will be fulfilled. After that the block of candle will be lit. Next we wait for the hot air to fill up the lantern before releasing them into the sky. We chose the parking space by the beach for our activity. The lanterns are then released in the direction towards the sea.
The sky lantern (simplified Chinese: 天灯) is also known as Kongming/Hoong Ming lantern 孔明灯. It is basically a small hot air balloon made of paper, with an opening at the bottom where a small fire is suspended.
