PRAWNS FOR THE CHINESE NEW YEAR

The price of medium to large prawns has risen drastically these past few weeks.  The medium sized prawns above are being sold at RM60 per kilo.  The large ones which are priced at RM75 per kilo were already sold out.
Now this has to do with the upcoming Chinese New Year Festival.  Symbolism plays a big part in welcoming a new year and the Chinese would want all things auspicious to kick start a brand new year.  The Cantonese word for prawn is Ha which sounds like laughter,  So prawns are a must have on the dinner table as happiness is very important to everyone.
