The local Malay name for this plant is Haba Neraka (Neomarica longifolia) or Hell's Heat. The common names in English are Walking Yellow Iris, Apostle plant and Martinique Trimezia.
The village folks in the rural areas are wary of this plant as they believe that the pollen from the flowers can induce miscarriages.
However I have seen this plant grown in some of my friends' house and also at the Singapore Botanical Garden. Perhaps only those who are ultra sensitive to pollen might be affected.
