A HAPPY HOME FOR SINGLE MOTHERS AND ORPHANS

Lai Yoong and I hadn't been to the Tua Pek Kong Temple in Pasir Panjang for more than a month. When we were there this evening, we saw that Rumah Bahagia or Happy Home was completed recently. We knew that an orphanage was being built but did not realise that besides orphans, this home will take in single mothers and their children as well. The rooms are furnished with beds and other basic furniture. Those who are eligible can live there for free. I was told that donations of food and money for them are welcomed. As far as we know there is a family comprising of one single mother and her three sons and another orphan. I think there are a few more residents that we did not get to talk to. When we were there, the director of the place, Dato' Koh King On, was talking to the family of a single mother with one child. They were interested to place the young mother and her child there.
You can see the exterior of parts of the building in the pictures below. There is also a playground by the side of the building for the children.
