In many Taoist households (and some Buddhist ones), home altars and statues of deities are given a thorough cleaning. The decorations that adorned \the altars the previous year are taken down and replaced with new decorations. Like most Chinese rituals, an auspicious and suitable date must be chosen to carry out the cleaning and changing of decorations. The dates can be found in the Chinese almanac. Those who are not good at reading the almanac can get a list of the dates from prayer paraphernalia shops.
