The birthday of the Jade Emperor is celebrated by Taoists on the 9th day of the first lunar month. Besides,this date, the Jade Emperor Temple that I frequent will also have a celebration on the 6th day of the 11th month. It happened to fall on 8th December in 2013.
For those who are not Taoists, the Jade Emperor or Yù Huáng or 玉帝, Yù Di is the ruler of
Heaven and all realms of existence below including that of Man and Hell. Only the Three Pure Ones are more superior than Him.
This year a total of 24 Roasted Pigs were presented as gifts to Yu Huang. These roasted pigs will be cut up and given to devotees who come to pay respects in the evening. In the morning, devotees are treated to vegetarian food.
