CHOICE BETWEEN ZODIAC AND KUA NUMBER

Your Feng Shui Personality – Should You Follow Your Zodiac Sign or Kua Number?

By Kathryn Weber

QUESTION: I was born January 14, 1966 at 7:30 am. I am a west group person with a 7 kua number. I am also a wood snake. Should I decorate my bedroom in blue colors to feed my wood snake energies – or will that hurt my kua number? I’m confused about what I should follow — my personal feng shui or my personal zodiac sign. Can you help me?

This is a typical question that comes in my email inbox and I thought it would be helpful to share my answer with everyone. In my own personal feng shui, I’m a 4 kua (east person) and I am a Water Tiger. Now, as a water tiger with a 4 kua, I’m very compatible. The person in the question above has very different qualities associated with her kua number and her zodiac sign that appear at odds with each other.

So, let’s talk about this….

The Chinese Zodiac can be considered a part of feng shui. It’s very useful to know your Chinese zodiac sign as each sector, or corner, of your house is associated with a particular zodiac sign. When your zodiac sign falls into a bathroom, or a kitchen, your essential energy can be harmed.

To understand how your zodiac sign applies to your home, be sure to read my article, Feng Shui Gets Personal — How to Activate Your Home & Life Using Your Chinese Zodiac Sign.

This article explains how to use your zodiac sign in your home and in the application of feng shui and improving one’s good fortune. This is probably the way I personally use my zodiac sign in feng shui the most often for both me and my clients. However, when I think of myself, I don’t think of my “Water Tiger” qualities. Instead, I turn to my 4 kua number.

Your Feng Shui Kua Number

Understanding the qualities of your kua number, and the directions associated with it, is what I find to be most helpful – and the feng shui qualifier I use the most. When I think of my personal feng shui, I think most often of my 4 kua, which is the kua of small wood. I always envision a small green leaf when I think of feng shui and of the water element that feeds small wood. I identify more fully and holistically as a 4 kua than I do as a water tiger. And for me, it’s just plain easier this way.

The conflicting elements

Other than knowing where my zodiac sign falls in my house and its relationship to the Grand Duke on a year to year basis, it’s much easier to think of the qualities of my kua number. Just think about how confusing it would be if I were a metal tiger. It’s difficult to reconcile all these opposing energies in a way that makes any kind of sense. For the most part, it’s much easier to think of yourself simply as a sheep, a boar, or an ox rather than a wood ox, or a fire monkey.

But there’s an even easier way than that, too.

When it comes to determining your feng shui personality or “quality” I find that your kua number is the most helpful, easiest to use and simplest to put into practice.

Below are qualities for each of the kua numbers, and an image that also might be helpful to understanding your personal feng shui qualities and personality. I hope they help you to understand your personal feng shui energies better and to find an affinity for those energies that makes sense – and good feng shui – for you.

If you memorize your kua number’s advantageous directions, colors, elements, numbers and so on, you can build your actions, home, life and wardrobe around these colors and elements. It’s amazing how they can propel your personal energies and harmonize your life — and harmonizing brings an instant attraction to wealth and success.

KUA NUMBER. But maybe you don’t know your kua number. If not, you can find yours at the Red Lotus Kua Calculator.

1 Kua – The Rolling Wave. 1 kua is related to water, and a wave is an image that you can associate with your kua number and the element of water. 1 kuas are transformational and may make big changes in their lives because of the nature of their water energies. Because you are the water element, look to the element that produces you, and that is metal. That makes black, blue, white, gold and silver very lucky colors for you. The numbers 1 and 6 also bring you good fortune, as do gold and silver jewelry items with diamonds or blue stones such as aquamarines. Tap the north, your personal growth direction associated with your kua number for amazing growth and prosperity. Luck is enhanced by metal, such as metal and glass furniture, bells, and windchimes.

2 Kua – The Mountain. 2 kua is associated with big earth and the image of a mountain is a beautiful symbol of your strength and steadfastness. Find an image that you relate to such as Mt. Everest, Yosemite or other strong beautiful mountain. Because you are of the earth element, look to the element of fire, as this is the element that produces earth. This makes all colors of red, purple, pink, orange and yellow very auspicious for you. The numbers 2 and 9 can also bring you good luck. Always have pairs to make you feel grounded and secure. This can be pairs of lamps on either side of the bed or pairs of plants or fu dogs flanking your front door or matching bracelets. The southwest is your personal growth direction and can help you get ahead. Wearing tan, red, and yellow colors is beneficial for you as are rubies, amethyst, citrine and pink or yellow diamonds. Bring great luck with lights of every kind – candles, twinkle lights or golden sunlight to your home and office.

3 Kua – The Majestic Tree. 3 kuas symbolize the beautiful tree. Whether you love a mighty oak, or a majestic sequoia, tree images are potent symbols for you and represent the big wood that makes up your kua number. As a wood element, you are most comfortable wearing black, blue, brown or green colors as they are both harmonized (green, brown) and productive (blue, black) with your wooden energies. Your personal growth direction is the east. Make sure you have a beautiful tree in the east corner of your home or garden as a symbol of your strength. Wear wooden jewelry and gems of green color such as jade, emeralds, or green amethyst. Keep a water feature in your home to bring you great luck.

4 Kua – The Green Leaf. 4 kuas are associated with the tender shoot of creativity. Like the plant peeking through the winter snow, 4 kuas are the epitome of hope. Think of an image of a small green leaf poking through the snow in winter. As a small wood element, water is extremely important to you. Look to water elements and colors (blue, black, purple) to keep your energy strong. The southeast is your personal growth direction and brings you good fortune. Keep plants and flowers around you to keep you inspired and keep your home light and open. Focus on wearing blue and green gemstones, or multi-colored stones for fabulous luck. Jade, diopside, emeralds and blue stones like topaz and aquamarines all bring you beneficial energy. Make sure you keep a water fountain in your home for wealth.

6 Kua – The Big Wheel. As a 6 kua, your energy is about big stuff – big ideas, big movement, working on a grand scale! Your element is big metal, so keep an image of great movement, like the Millennium Wheel in London – that’s an excellent image for your energy. 6 kuas benefit and grow when the northwest sector is enhanced and earth elements, like geodes, crystals and other earth elements are found in abundance. The world is your oyster, so have plenty of maps and globes to represent this energy. Be sure to wear plenty of white, gold and silver. In fact, any metallic color is perfect for your energy. Bells are another great element to surround yourself with, as a mobiles. Anything moving and metallic will keep your energy high and bring you good fortune.

7 Kua – The Clear Bell. Like a small, clear bell, 7 kuas have energy that can cut through the thickest and heaviest energies. Your small metal mind is full of creative energy. The west is your direction of personal growth so watching a sunset is especially auspicious for you. Any kind of metal and earth elements such as crystals brings you fabulous energy and good fortune. Purple, tan, yellow and ochre are also great colors for you to wear and paint your rooms with. Look for small metallic items to infuse your home and office with activating metal energy. Windchimes and bells are perfect items to raise your energy and white gems such as white jade, white diamonds and quartz all bring you excellent energy.

8 Kua – The Crystal Ball. Known for being a source of wisdom, inspiration and ability to see into the future, 8 kuas are keenly perceptive. They’re depth is enhanced by big earth elements such as pictures of mountains, geodes, globes and maps – and light. Be sure to have plenty of lighting and red colors to stimulate your earth element and bring you good luck. Amethyst and citrine are wonderful stimulators for you as are red stones such as rubies, garnet and amber. Keep your home well lit and spend time in the northeast, the direction of your personal growth. Ochre and tan are also good colors to wear and paint your home with and will bring you good fortune.

9 Kua – The Dancing Fire. The 9 kua is a happy person and always on the move. The 9 kua energy is filled with fire making it highly energetic. Your personal growth direction is south and you are energized by wooden objects such as beautiful furniture, red colors and plants and flowers. Keeping plants and flowers in your home and office will bring you great good fortune and energize you. Be sure to enhance your home with images of birds or horses to stimulate even more success luck. Stones such as emeralds, rose-tone gold, brown topaz all bring great energy to 9 kuas. Wear colors of green, brown, and all tones of red from lightest pink to deepest purple.
