Feng Shui for Annoying colleagues and Boss

By S.BS. Surendran

Everything is going smooth at your work place and one fine day either you have a new peer to interact who is having a typical ‘boss’ attitude or a colleague who has joined and not too friendly. Having dealt with friendly co-workers and boss, at times you reach a phase in your career where you have to also handle unpleasant office situations, politics, negativity, bullying boss and annoying co-workers.

Usually in the form of a boss, the bully hurts everyone physically, emotionally, and more painful mentally. Your first reaction would be of swelling anger within you and unable to digest the new changes, feeling of defeat and sadness. You feel helpless and unable to handle the hassle of having an incessant bully and you may even think of quitting the job. It does not make sense to go through the trouble of another job search and interview just because someone is terrorizing you in the office. Be strong, determined and refuse to be a victim.

Firstly tell yourself that you don’t expect a boss to be very sympathetic. After all compassionate boss is very unlikely but is a real treasure although often a boss has only expectations. Harassment in the office can lead to discouragement and can create an undesirable working environment. Power play is quite dangerous whether it’s from the boss or a colleague, have courage to point it out and discuss the issue proactively keeping aside the ego clash or fear of confrontation.

If you are having a troublesome colleague who is not only nosy but cannot stand if your work is being recognized by the organization or someone who tries to terrorize you with his attitude, don’t be intimated, stand up and let him know that you will not take it kindly and don’t cower or shout but be level headed, firm and clear most importantly drive home your message by speaking while looking into the eye.

Adapting Feng Shui can create the right harmony and ensure that such unpleasant situations do not occur. Explore the possibility of re-arranging your work desk and if you are in the cubicle type seating, you do not have much choice, yet you could do few things.

Ensure you don’t sit with your back to entry/exit , try to add more lights ( if you can) to your work desk in the from of desk lamps, you could place small plants with round leaves a bamboo plant in water is also considered good when placed towards the North of your desk space. A whiff of freshness in the form of small air fresheners especially lime or citronella based flavor would dispel the negative chi around your workspace,

Add colors in the form of pin ups or posters (it could be motivational posters too). You could even have small hand towels on your chair arm rest with yang colors like red, yellow and orange. Colors like Green and purple symbolize wealth and would be more appropriate for those in sales.

If your have the privilege at your work place to display some Feng Shui symbolism then placing a amethyst gem tree enhances good relationship with your workmates and controls tempers. Placing a figurine of Rooster or the mythical Dragon Horse known as Chilin’s will counter Petty office politics, negative and counterproductive energy.

Remember, Feng Shui would be supportive to you if you can stand up for yourself when things don’t go the way it should.
