SNOW FUNGUS 雪耳

What looks like a flower on a plate above is actually Snow Fungus.  This type of fungus is commonly found on various types of trees especially in the Asian countries and also other warm climates across the globe. It is white in color and almost transparent. In Cantonese Snow fungus is commonly known as wood ear 雪耳.   The best quality of snow fungus is light yellowish-white in color and feels like mucilage when touched.
For centuries, the Chinese medicine practitioners have been using it to heal various ailments. Snow Fungus is commonly used to enhance body liquids, to cure dry coughs and also heart palpitations or the trembling nervous system. At the same time, snow fungus is commonly used as a stimulating herb and also used to improve skin tone.
What I am most interested in is that during researches scientists have discovered that snow fungus has qualities that reduces the intensity of the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or harmful cholesterol and also retards the aging process. If someone consumes snow fungus habitually the wrinkles, freckles and stress marks on his/her face will vanish. So, I will make sure I use Snow Fungus as one of the ingredients when I am making my herbal drinks.
