The plant pictured above is called Pokok Celaka in Malay by the villagers in the kampung. When translated literally it means Damned Plant. Its scientific name is Plumbago zeylanica. The reason I think it is called such is because boiling the roots in water and drinking the concoction will induce a miscarriage for those who are pregnant. Perhaps this is how the kampung folks in olden times practised birth control.
