On 3 December, 1992 It was Dec. 3, 1992, an engineer by the name of Neil Papworth in the United Kingdom sent the world’s first short message service or SMS. It read “Merry Christmas. Since today is the 5th of December 1992, the SMS would be 20 years and 2 days old.By the way, Papworth wasn't the inventor of the text message; the honour went to Matti Makkonen, a Finnish engineer, who was working with Nokia on mobile messaging wasy back in 1985.
