DON'T THROW AWAY THE MANDARIN ORANGE SKIN

During the Chinese New Year, there will be lots of Mandarin oranges on sale. A long time ago, the Chinese ladies would keep the mandarin orange peels and dry them. These will be used later as herbal medicine or for cooking.

Traditionally, the skin of the mandarin orange is used to relieve cough and to improve digestion. For me, I put a few pieces of the dried orange skin into dessert like Hong Tau Sar or Red Bean Soup to make it tastier. You can also put it into other soups to make the soup tastier, dissolve oily and help you to digest better. You can also boil the dried skin and it becomes a healthy tea. This tea is good for healing cough.

fruit skins can also be made enzyme cleanser. 1 kg brown sugar, 3 kg fruit skins (used the citrus type, nice smell) & 10 litre of water. Soak for at least 3 months (mine already more then a year, still soaking). the enzyme can be used to mop floor, clean windows, soak clothes, etc.
