EATING THE BANANA FLOWER BUDS

Many people in western countries do not know this, but banana flower buds, harvested after the fruit bunch has developed, can be eaten as vegetables. The flavour of the bud is something between celery and spinach.
In the Malay language it is known as Jantung Pisang or the Heart of the Banana.  How do we eat it in Malaysia?  Very simple.  Just cut them into halves or quarters (depending on the size of the flowers) and scald the banana flowers and eat them with sambal belacan. Yummy!!!
