DRIED SEA CUCUMBER

Pictured above are packets of dried sea cucumber or gamat in Malay.  When alive, the sea cucumber resembles the shape of a cucumber. Hence the name
The Chinese name for sea cucumber is Hoi Sum (translates roughly to mean sea ginseng).  It also sounds like happiness in Cantonese and that is why it is one of the popular dishes during special occasions.
The Chinese use the sea cucumber to treat fatigue, weakness, impotence, constipation, join paint, high blood pressure, arthritis and viruses.
