VASTHU SASTRA: HOUSE EXTENSIONS AFFECTING THE NORTHEAST

Here is a Vasthu Satra article by T. Selva  taken from the Star newspaper.

Power from the north-east
By T. Selva

Housing schemes in Malaysia usually offer typical homes, that span 22 feet in width and 75 feet in length. And in Vasthu Sastra (Indian Feng Shui) terms, this is viewed as a rectangular plot, which is considered favourable.

However, the problem arises when the property owner alters the built-up area or land with renovations without considering the effects such changes have on the environment and the dweller.

Some extensions are favourable while some are not, depending on which “sector” within the plot is extended or cut.

For example, if the north-east corner of the land is cut, it will affect “family growth” and ancestry and this is regarded as inauspicious.

This is because if the north-east section is cut, the dweller is preventing positive energy from flowing into the property.

But if north-east section is extended, this is viewed as favourable, as it brings prosperity to the dweller. This is because the extension allows a more positive flow of energy into the plot.

Cosmic

The north-east is given importance because the cosmic rays hit the earth at the north-east corner of the earth.

Each plot or piece of land is viewed as a miniature earth and the north-east sector acts as an “antenna” in receiving the waves of energy.

Due to this, it is important that the structure should be properly oriented and designed in such a way as to acquire the maximum benefits of energy from nature.

To allow more positive energy to flow into any property, the owner should ensure that the following measures are adopted:
Open the north-east
Extend the north-east
Depress the north-east

To store positive energy that has flowed into the property, the dweller should:
Close the south-west
Ensure the south-west has a right angle and not cut or depressed
Elevate the south-west

Rectification should be carried out if the land is not square-shaped or rectangular. And this can be done by abandoning small areas that protrude into the unfavourable sector of the land.

It is recommended that the extended small areas should be sold or given to charitable groups.

If that is not possible, a wall should be built on the corrected boundary. The excess land should not be used by the property owner for any purpose.

Space
Vasthu Sastra principles recommend that an ideal house should have space between neighbouring units, so that the dweller enjoys a smooth flow of cosmic energy as well as better ventilation and light.

However, it is difficult to find such houses in most housing schemes nowadays. Typically, rows of terraced houses are built owing to the lack of space in prime areas and for economic reasons.

When choosing such a residential property, a dweller should avoid units that face a T-junction which is inauspicious, as it brings financial and health problems to the dweller.
