HUSBAND AND WIFE BISCUITS

A friend of mine shared with me the husband and wife biscuits that she got from a client who had gone on holiday in Malacca.  Now these are traditional Chinese biscuits.
Wife biscuits (Lao Bo Bing) 老婆饼 and husband biscuits (Lau Gong Bing) 老公饼 are a traditional Chinese pastry that are said to have originated from Hong Kong but now you are able to buy it from almost at all Chinese Bakeries. The wife biscuit has a sweet winter melon paste filling surrounded by a flaky pastry. It seems that the wife biscuits are sweet while the husband biscuits are salty.
So how did these Wife biscuits come about? Legend has it that a man had to sell biscuits to raise funds to redeem his wife from slavery. There is no story about the origins of the husband cake. I guess since the bakers made wife biscuits, they decided to come up with a companion in the form of the husband biscuits 老公饼.
