COMING ATTRACTIONS: TWO MORE TREES TO HUG
When I visited the Gaharu Tea Valley in Gopeng for the second time last weekend, I was told by the guide that there are plans to build a bridge to the two trees dubbed "The Lovers". At present visitors to the place can only view the trees when being driven by the driver along the winding roads of the hill.
According to folklore, the trees were supposed to be that of a white lady and an aborigine male. Not too sure about what transpired before they took the incarnation as plants but I guess there must be a romantic tale behind it. The guide told my friends and I that a few years ago when they tried to clear the land, something strange happened. In a bid to clear the place, the workers had tried to use trackers to run down the trees but each time they reached the two trees the tracker broke down. Initially, they thought that the vehicle was spoilt and they got a bulldozer to do the job. Surprise! Surprise! Each time the bulldozer reached the trees, the engine died. That was when everyone realised that the trees were enchanted and they let the trees be. Now this really happened.
So plans are ahead to construct the bridge and build a circular platform around them to allow visitors to go hug the trees. Single males can hug the female tree to wish for a life partner and vice versa. Wow! This would bring in more tourists. Right?
