Nowadays it is not easy to find roadside hawker stalls (like the ones above) in Ipoh not like when I was still a student. If my memory does not fail me, I think the City Council had something to do with it - something about getting the hawkers located in food courts to make the roads and streets cleaner. If there is any Ipohite out there who knows more about this, I'd appreciate it if you could enlighten me and my visitors more about the matter.

If memory serves me correctly, the relocation of hawkers from the street into shops were widely conducted in 1986, aftermath the loss of BN in several important seats in Perak. It started with those along Jalan Pasir Putih where majority of them were DAP supporters. The Chinese "tong sui" stall which is now located opposite the back of Sam Tet School was originally along Theatre Stret until they were forcibly relocated. The lady selling CCF stays in Kampung Simme and had been selling at the same location since 1979. Her husband drives a taxi but stopped driving after an ailment and she tops up by selling CCF.
Today, we do see street hawkers in Ipoh and mainly are selling nasi lemak, goreng pisang, cucur udang, burger, nasi ayam masak merah.
