JANG GEUN SUK SCHOLARSHIP FUND

To start off a new year, I'd like to blog about the generous gesture of a very popular South Korean actor by the name of Jang Geun Suk. Jang who is currently into his fourth year at Hanyang University made a very generous donation. He had actually not want any media attention to be given to his contribution and had asked that they not report on it. However, the donation became news when Hanyang University released theirlist of donors on the university homepage. It has also been revealed that the university has set up a ‘Jang Geun Suk Scholarship Fund‘ in honour of the actor himself. The donation will be used for students in the acting and film department. Students with outstanding grades and/or in tough financial situations will have 50% of their total tuition covered by the fund. For your information, Jang made a donation of $1.2 million USD Netizens didn’t find out until the school released their list of donators’ names on the university homepage. Hanyang University stated, “Jang intended for the donation to be used to help students in difficult financial situations who still work to study hard. We will be planning the distribution of the donation so that many students can benefit from it.”

I am amazed that this young man who is only 24 years of age has made such a huge contribution to help students in his field in their tertiary education.  Mind you, US$1.2 million is a very large amount.

Jang Geun Suk enrolled into Hanyang University’s Department of Theatre and Film in 2006 and is currently a 4th year student at the university. In hopes that the school will continue to grow, he donated $1.2 million USD to fund a scholarship for deserving students. In the above picture, he is receiving a commemorative plaque for his donation.
