EXCHANGE OF GIFTS DURING CHINESE NEW YEAR

One important tradition observed by the Chinese during the Lunar New Year is the exchange of gifts. As the Chinese are very into symbolism, thus many of the gift items have symbolic meanings or status symbols to show goodwill and also to express good wishes. New Year gifts are given to family, friends and also between businesses.
Popular items include Mandarin oranges, sweets, candies, chocolates and hampers. Before the advent of the cyberage, New Year cards 贺年卡 were also sent to family members, friends and business contacts. Nowadays, not many people send cards by snail mail as they can use mms, sms and also emails to convey their new year greetings.

  1. I don't recommend hamper from the supermarket / hypermarket as it contents a lot of junk food with high calories. I prefer The Yu Yan Sang hamper which is more healthy and worthwhile. They just recently open a new outlet opposite the Elim Gospel.
