TALES OF THE 24 EXEMPLARS: ZHU SHOU CHANG (A.D. 960)

Zhu Shouchang: Giving up official position to search for long lost mother
Zhu Shou Chang was the son of a concubine. Due to the jealousy of the first wife, his father divorced Shou Chang's mother. After that, he did not see his mother for fifty years. At that time, he was only seven years old. He had become a grand official at the palace when his father's first wife passed way. As Shou Chang wanted to find his mother, he gave up his position at the palace. He tried to look for his mother at unknown places and told his whole family that if he could not find her, he would not return. Through his filial piety and earnest prayer, he received Buddha's blessing and finally managed to meet his mother who was already seventy years old. He brought her back to live with him, and looked after her until her death.
