Yesterday I went with my mum and aunt to the Tow Bow Keung Temple in Ipoh to check out the preparations for the festival. I noticed that the palanquins to transport the statues of the deities have already been placed at the front. Tonight, the devotees will go to the Kinta River where a ceremony is held to invoke and welcome the Nine Emperor Gods 九皇爺 and invite them to the temple. The palanquins are used to ferry Them back to the temple. The palanquins used for inviting the Deities are usually the elaborate and covered types like the ones below. The ones above are usually used for the procession which is held towards the end of the festival.
