LONG BEANS

In Cantonese, we refer to the Chinese long bean as Dou Gok. Its scientific name is Vigna unguiculata subsp. sesquipedalis.  I also found out that it is also known as the yardlong bean, bora, the long-podded cowpea, asparagus bean and snake bean.
Did you know that the long bean is considered an energy food? Since it is low in calories, those who want to lose some weight should consider consuming long beans.  And it seems that eating long beans helps one stay young as it is rich in phyto chemicals and anti oxidants.   Another benefit of the long bean is that it helps lower blood pressure.  Wow!  I am going to include lots of long beans in my diet from now on.
