I read an article in the Star Newspaper today about Honey Chrysanthemum Tea being a popular choice by those Muslims as a thirst quencher when they break their fast. To read the story, click the link.
According to the writer of the article, the husband of the stall operator prepares the tea using a secret recipe. Obviously, two of the ingredients would be honey and dried chrysanthemum flowers.
Anyway, here is my recipe for Chrysanthemum tea that uses honey or rock sugar for those who wish to try making this drink.
Medicinal uses: For Reducing Internal Heat and Mild Sunstroke. Improves vision. Cleanses the body.
Ingredients (for about 5 glasses)
- a handful of dried yellow Chrysanthemum (can be bought from the Chinese Medical shop or supermarket)
- 5 - 6 teaspoon of honey
- 1 big lump of rock sugar
- 2 tablespoon of brown sugar
- 5 glasses of water
- Wash and drain chrysanthemum flowers.
- Add the yellow chrysanthemum flowers into a pot.
- Add 5 -6 teaspoon of honey.
- Add 1 lump of rock sugar.
- Add two tablespoon of brown sugar.
- Pour boiling water on to the content.
- Allow tea to stand for 10 - 15 minutes.
- Pour tea into glass and allow to cool slightly before drinking.
- You can chill it the fridge or add ice.
By looking at the picture above, I hazard to guess that the other secret ingredient of the stall operator is brown sugar.
Hmm ... perhaps, I'll make it for my librarians to break fast next week. They are one lot of lucky boys and girls to have a library teacher like me, aren't they? Huhuhu!
