Next year is Visit Perak Year and the PR people in Ipoh are busy coming up with ideas to promote my hometown. One of the special food that will be highlighted is Nasi Ganja or when literally translated, it is Marijuana Rice. Fear not. This dish does not contain any dangerous drug. It is called such by the patrons because they find the food addictive. The name of the shop is Kedai Kopi Yong Suan which is located along Jalan Yang Kalsom in Ipoh. In actual fact, Nasi Ganja is Nasi Kandar. The nasi kandar there is so famous that even our prime minister has visited it and tasted the Nasi Kandar Ayam Merah. I read somewhere that this is a favourite eating place for the Chief Minister of Perak as well.
One needs to stand in a queue to wait to order the food since there will be lots of people going there. If my memory does not fail me, I went there many years ago and tried the food but found the food to be okay only, nothing so spectacular to make me want to go back for more and more.
