KUAN YIN'S VOLUNTEERS

Every year, three of my friends, Lai Yoong, Li Hwa and her hubby, Mr Ooi would volunteer their service during the celebration of Kuan Yin's birthday at the Lumut Temple. Many of the volunteers would usually help in the kitchen to prepare vegetarian food to be served to devotees who come to pay homage to the Goddess.  Some would also be serving, ushering and doing the washing up.
This year Lai Yoong volunteered for three days.  She told me that she helped to cut the vegetables and also serve the vegetarian dishes.  Li Hwa took 5 days off from work to volunteer at the temple.  Her husband took a day off. According to Lai Yoong, the Oois were tasked with the washing-up.
