VASTHU SASTRA ARTICLE BY T. SELVA

Destiny’s numbers

Ancient Secrets
By T. Selva

In this first instalment of his new monthly column, our columnist expands beyond Vasthu Sastra to provide a wider perspective on ancient beliefs, sciences, practices and cultures.
I AM looking forward to sharing the treasure trove of lesser known secrets found in many cultures and belief systems in this new, monthly column. I have found that these ancient practices are still applicable in modern times because they continue to provide answers and deliver results.
I would like to begin my maiden column with a discussion about numbers, because we are all governed by digits that hold deep mysteries and tell stories about ourselves from the time we are born. The interpretation of the time, date, month and year in which we are born has strong significance in the science of numerology, which states that every number vibrates at a particular frequency.
To understand this field, I undertook a three-year study course under my master, seventh generation astrologer Yuvaraj Sowma from Chennai, India. The 2,000-year-old science of numbers exposed me to another branch of ancient sciences, that is, how to forecast the future and find answers to the challenges in life.
Numerology in history: The 16th century seer Nostradamus supposedly used numerology to make his predictions about modern-day events.
My studies and research have allowed me to establish the qualities and energies associated with numbers. Now, by using only a person’s name and birth date, I can reliably predict his or her strengths, weaknesses, character, life patterns, health, unfavourable ages and growth via numerological calculation.
This involves the art and science of using the nine digits, 1 to 9. Only nine digits, seems simple? Far from it!
In fact, these numbers, and the digit 0, are the basis of all other combinations of numbers no matter how big. Since the digit 0 has no value on its own, however, it is not used when doing numerology calculations.
Before I give a brief explanation of how numerology works, it is important to note that these nine digits are each governed by a planet that exerts a particular influence (see graphic below).
Two methods are used in determining the past, present and future of a person.
The first uses the “personal number”; this is obtained by adding up the digits that express your date of birth. For instance, if you were born on July 23, then, 2+3 = 5. Based on 5, a numerologist can provide a general description of the person, his or her character, weak and strong periods of life, lucky stones, colours, auspicious dates, partner compatibility, health and future.
The other method uses what is known as the destiny number, which involves more complicated calculations of your birth date, month and year. All digits expressing such information have to be added to each to reduce them to their simplest form.
For instance, if the birth date is 12, it is reduced by 1+2 to get 3. Similarly, the year 1981 should be reduced by adding 1+9+8+3 to get 21. The 21 is further reduced by adding 2+1 to get 3.
The letters that make up a person’s name can aslo be assigned a numerical value and then added together to be reduced to the simplest to determine the person’s destiny number.
Characteristics of numbers
One: Strong personality, self-reliant, independent, love praise, and success and failure is of their own making; women born with this destiny number should avoid early marriage.
Two: Good mediator, and they take an interest in other people’s troubles; they will experience many in life and usually will only attain success later in life, after a lot of hard work.
Three: Intelligent, hardworking, ambitious, and one who seeks constant change. They are able to emerge as winners despite obstacles.
Four: Faithful, helpful, respectful and conservative. They can be successful as long as they are not too emotional.
Five: Industrious, independent, adventurous and smart people who seek a non-routine life. They are sociable and tend to do things out of the box.
Six: They are peaceful in nature and go out of their way to help others. They tend to be creative ideas and have big plans but can lack the strength to carry them out.
Seven: Productive, intelligent people who never allow themselves to become disappointed by failure. They will enjoy the fruits of their hard work in the later part of their life.
Eight: They are enterprising and have the ability to make wise judgements. They tend to be fast learners and are careful in money matters, so should do well in business.
Nine: Understanding, helpful and sympathetic in nature. They lack consistency in things they do, though, and sometimes tend to take on impractical projects.
