NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF INVENTION

When I was at the dried seafood shop in Lumut yesterday evening, I noticed that the owner had put up two fan like contraptions above the dried anchovies and dried shrimps.  Their function is to keep flies away from the foodstuff.  See, this is what we call necessity is the mother of invention.

I met a Thai chap maybe 10 years ago who used to export a lot of satay fish (made in P. Pangkor)to Hong Kong. Later the HK authorities banned import of satay fish when they detected certain chemicals above legal limits. The Thai chap could not remember the names of the chemicals but he mentioned preservative and another chemical that was used to retain the crispiness of the satay fish. It was a long time ago, and the factory could have modified their ingredients for wider acceptance.
