When the statue of Kuan Yin was first installed on a hill near the Kek Lok Si temple, there was no shelter. Then it was decided that a pavilion should be built to protect the beautiful statue from the elements. To finance the building of the Goddess of Mercy Pavilion, one needs to donate a tile by paying a certain sum of money. While I was there, the pavilion was still under construction. I think they are still putting up the tiles. The temple authorities were still accepting funds to complete the roof tiles of the ornate shelter. For RM30 you get to write your name on a small roof tile measuring about 6 inches x 3 inches, the larger tile is RM50 and for RM150 one gets the special design like Dragons and Qi-Lin. It’s a small fee actually considering your name will stay with Guan Yin’s statue permanently. If you donate one roof tile they will write your name on it. Your name will be written in Chinese.
I only got myself the RM30 tile. Yeh! My name tile will be placed in the pavilion giving shelter to Kuan Yin's statue. What a nice thought!
