The Taoists have a Fate Changing Ritual (Chuen Wan) which can be carried out at temples on certain dates which are chosen after referring to the T'ung Shu (Chinese Almanac). They believe that if ones luck is bad for a certain period, then they can carry out the ritual in temples to have better luck. The ritual is carried out with the blessings of the deities.
The temple caretakers would be the master or mistress of ceremony for the rituals where prayers are said and offerings are burnt. The person who wishes for the Change of Fate would be led around the altar a few times. Some would have to pass through a gate with a Tiger Effigy at the top.
