TORNADO POTATO

I love visiting the Pasar Malam or Night Market.  It is actually one of my favourite pastimes.  This evening I was at the one outside Giant Hypermarket in Sitiawan and I spotted something new - Twist Potato.  There were actually three such stalls selling this snack at the Pasar Malam.
In this picture, you see the vendor dipping the potato twist (which has been cut into the shape of a tornado) dipping it into the batter.
After that the potato is deep fried.

One stick of Potato Twist sells for RM2.00.
Me with a former student whose family operates one of the My Twist Potato Stalls a the Night Market outside Giant in Sitiawan.

Here is some info that I managed to find about the Tornado Potato or Potato Twist:

Tornado potatoes are not special potatoes. They are just normal potatoes that anyone can get from the market. All you need is a spiral cutter to cut the potatoes. Then all you need to do is to fry it and sprinkle your favorite flavouring on it. Go crazy with barbecue powder, chili powder, onion and cheese, or any other combination!

TWIST POTATO Cutter Machine is not simply a potato processor. This machine gives the potato the shape of a tornado. It makes a plain potato change into a beautiful tasty snack in a few seconds!

How to prepare a twist potato chip
Twist Potato is basically a potato that’s been sliced into a long spiral and deep fried. After 3 minutes, take up the potato chips and let the oil drain.
The Basic Condition for Making the Original Twist Potato: Fresh hard potato. The temperature of oil: 170-180°C

I was told that one can buy the twist potato cutter for RM799.  The price includes training on how to operate the machine and prepare the twist potato. Those who are interested to start a tornado potato business might want to visit the following site:
