VASTHU SASTRA: ENERGY SPACE CLEANSING

Out spot, out!

VASTHU SASTRA

Keeping your house clean is not enough. You need to get rid of the negative energy lurking around.

WE clean our houses physically, but how many of us are actually cleansing the energy within our home? Failure to remove negative and stale energy trapped in a dwelling or work space can be harmful because the structure will become a sick building.

In such homes, the occupants will fall ill frequently, feel dull and lethargic, and experience sleep disorders. In the case of an office, there will be an increase in employees reporting sick or being disunited, and bizarre occurrences, like hysteria.

Vasthu Sastra recommends that one carries out energy space cleansing during the period when the full moon wanes, to when the new moon emerges.

Before you embark on space cleansing, make sure you are relaxed, feeling good and ready to perform the therapy. Cleansing the space hurriedly and haphazardly will not give you the desired results.

Women should not do it during their period, or if they are expecting, because then their energy will be focused elsewhere.

It is encouraged that you switch off appliances like the radio, television and mobile phones so that you will not be distracted. Switching off the air-conditioner and fan also makes the process easier.

Children who are very sensitive to shifts in energy are advised not to be present during the process. Food and drinks should be sealed and put away because space cleansing stirs up stagnant energy, and exposed food can absorb the negative energy.

The different cultures have their own space cleansing methods but there various similarities. If you have pets, watch how they behave, particularly where they sit or sleep, prior to your energy clearing.

In Russia, nobody will enter a new house before the cat does because the Russians believe the creature has a unique ability to sense negative energy and to feed on it. They will watch carefully to see where the creature lies down first and would never think of placing their bed or sofa on that spot.

Dogs, on their other hand, are drawn to areas with a cluster of positive energy. So your dog’s favourite spot could be a good place for activities, or a corner to spend a lot of your time.

Once you have identified a cat spot, spend more time cleansing that area to get rid of the bad energy.

In Vasthu, as long as an individual allows a cow to walk into a new house first, all negative issues will be flushed away because the cow is considered a powerful sacred animal.

Salt bath

Before performing space cleansing, prepare yourself by having a sea salt rub, and bathe with sandalwood paste to strengthen your aura. Salt helps to absorb and neutralise any negative energy that might be on you that day.

Normally after a shower, you should feel much lighter and more ready to connect to the energy of your house. Dress in clean, comfortable clothes and remove all jewellery. Ideally, work with bare feet.

Some cultures use candles, sage, bells, camphor and scented oil in the cleansing. I find that incense from sandalwood and frankincense is one of the most powerful agents to eliminate harmful energy.

In Vasthu, fire energy should be invoked because our (human) energy field is magnetic in nature, and fire energy can easily enter our electromagnetic field and cleanse it.

Start from the front door and walk clockwise; finish at the point you started. If you are using incense, allow time for the smoke to rise up to the door and window frames, ceiling and corners.

Alternatively take salt and place it in the four corners of the “sick” room and sprinkle sea water on it. After the salt has been placed on the floor for a day, get a broom that is used only for your cleansing therapy and sweep it up. Then discard the salt in the toilet.

This exercise can be carried out regularly or whenever you feel something is not right in the positive energy flow in the house. It is recommended that you take a bath after each cleansing.

Remember that once you have purified the energy of your house, you will need to stablise the fresh energy. This can be done by performing a prayer following whatever faith you belong to.
