A SNAKE STORY

This morning I saw a few of the school cleaners chasing after a cobra with sticks. They were heading towards the Cooperative Store near the Form 5 block. Once they reached there, the cobra decided to head towards the Cooperative building. By this time, more teachers had come to look at what was happening. Cikgu Hakim, the counsellor, and Encik Sukri, the technician, both sprung into action. Cikgu Hakim hit the snake with a slipper until it was dizzy and Encik Sukri finished the snake off by hitting its head with a stick.
Initially I had suggested that they not kill the snake but instead catch it and then place it in a container and then send it to the zoo. For the Buddhists, Taoists and Hindus, killing snakes is considered taboo.
