WITH FRIENDS LIKE MINE

My friend Haji Hasnin and his daughter, Idliana dropped by at my new house this morning to see how far the renovation and repair has progressed.  At the same time Lai Yong and her Leng Chai husband also came.  All of them helped to look at the work being done and also gave a lot of advice and suggestions.
Lai Yoong showing me the spot where I should ask the contractor for the grills to add 'something' (not sure what it is called) for the lock.
Both Haji Hasnin and Mr Wong think alike when it comes to looking for a suitable house to buy.  Unlike me, they look at the people living in the area.  They tell me that this factor is more important than Feng Shui.  They both happen to know the owners of four of the houses in the row facing my house.  All of them are Navy men and their wives happen to be nurses.  These are middle-aged family men whom the two of them have been playing badminton with for many, many years.  Actually, it seems that out of the 10 houses, 8 of them are owned by people from the Navy either actively serving or retired.  Those who bought houses in line with mine are also professional people.  Similarly, quite a number of the people behind my houses are professional people.  My colleague Daniel and his wife happen to live just behind my house.
There is this very much cliched saying which goes, "With friends like mine, who needs enemies".  Well, in my case, it goes "With friends like mine, who needs angels".  I count that as a special blessing from Heaven.
