TABOO TO TAKE WEDDING PHOTOS DURING SEVENTH LUNAR MONTH

To the Chinese, the seventh lunar month or the Ghost Month is a time when the gates of the Underworld is open and its inhabitants are let loose for the duration.  There are some who believe that they might have extra 'being' captured in their wedding photographs.  As a matter of fact the Chinese usually do not choose the seventh lunar month to get married.
Here is a story taken from the Star Newspaper about newlyweds in Penang shying from having their wedding photographs taken during this month.

Newlyweds get camera-shy during Hungry Ghost fest

PENANG: Chinese couples are staying away from photo shoots for their wedding during the upcoming Hungry Ghost Festival for fear of accidentally capturing “spiritual images”.

Wedding planners claim this is the latest taboo among couples.

This means there will be fewer couples patronising popular scenic spots like the Penang Botanic Gardens, Penang Municipal Park and Penang Hill to pose for their wedding photo collection.

The festival, celebrated throughout the seventh lunar month, starts Monday and ends on Sept 10.

Ideal Wedding bridal house consultant Venes Ng said couples were afraid that apart from their own images, “something else” might be captured in the photos.

“They said they don’t want to take any chances,” she added.

She said those who did not mind taking photos during this period would request for it to be done before sunset as they believed the ghosts would wander only after nightfall.
