AIYOH! SO ROMANTIC

I read an article about an endearing love story that spanned a few decades.  It is even more romantic than that of the suspected romance between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.  Now this is what I call true love.

Here is the article:

Wang Deyao and Liu Guxiang

Love kept alive despite 36yrs of separation

Just 10 days after marrying childhood sweetheart Liu Guxiang, Kuomintang soldier Wang Deyao was forced to leave behind his wife and fight in the frontlines.

When his Kuomintang army was defeated by troops of the Communist Party of China, the then 25-year-old Wang followed the party in its retreat to Taiwan.

Although the couple had never seen for 36 years, their love never faded.

When Wang returned home in 1984, he handed over a big box containing 300 poems and hundreds of letters which he wrote over his years in the island.

The letters could not be sent because no communication was allowed between China and Taiwan then.

Liu and Wang were chilldhood sweethearts but before they could be married, the Japanese invaded China in 1941.

Wang left the village in Xishui, Hubei province, to join the Koumintang army to protect his country.

Before leaving, he promised to return and marry Liu when the war was over.

A few years later, however, Liu's father forced her to marry a rich man's son in the village instead, as there had been no news of Wang.

Liu objected strongly and ran away from home but returned when her father called off the wedding.

Wang finally returned to the village in 1948 and reunited with Liu. They got married immediately.

But just 10 days after the marriage, Wang was called back to join the army which eventually lost and had to flee to Taiwan.

Wang said he remembered Liu sending him off at the jetty and everything else about her.

"Those memories kept me going in Taiwan. I always believed that we would be reunited one day," recalled Wang when he was interviewed by the Chinese media recently.

During his time in Taiwan, Wang always wrote to his wife despite knowing that his letters would never reach China.

He also rejected all offers from friends, whowanted to match-make him with other women.

In 1979 when the relationship between China and Taiwan improved, Wang's friend brought him a poem and letter written by Liu to him.

Wang recognised her handwriting immediately and this hardened his resolve to return home.

He submitted his applications to go back to China on many times but were rejected by the authorities.

In 1984, he finally set foot on the mainland and met Liu for the first time after 36 years, finding out that she had suffered much including being criticised and denounced during the Cultural Revolution (1966 – 1976).

She was also forced to marry another man, a teacher. After the teacher died, she was again forced to marry an ex-soldier, who also died five years later.

Liu said no matter how difficult her life was, she never gave up hope on being reunited with her beloved husband.

Today, the couple is living happily together in China.

true love indeed.it's easy for guy to say no to other women once he's determined to be with the love of his life. but for women, they got pressure from family, the society, relatives.
but it's all good as they did get to see each other. =)
