PEI KUAI CHAAK

Here is a story about a Korean celebrity, Lee Joon, who admitted to being suppressed by supernatural forces during a televised Korean show recently.  In Cantonese, this is referred to as Pei Kuai Chaak or being pressed down by a ghost.  In Chinese culture, sleep paralysis is widely known as "鬼壓身/鬼压身" (pinyin: guǐ yā shēn) or "鬼壓床/鬼压床" (pinyin: guǐ yā chuáng), which literally translate into "ghost pressing on body" or "ghost pressing on bed." A more modern term is "夢魘/梦魇" (pinyin: mèng yǎn). In western culture, it is known as sleep paralysis.

Lee Joon gets pressed down by a ghost whenever he sleeps

MBLAQ’s Lee Joon made a rather shocking confession through this week’s Star Golden Bell. It was about something along the lines of being pressed down by an unexpected force whenever he sleeps.

Aside from the scary tone of his story, Lee Joon added his own little humor into it:

“When I return home around dawn after my schedules, I get suffocated (pressed down by an unexpected force) once I fall asleep.”

“I think the ghost smokes a lot. A woman with a husky voice lets out a screech.”

The lack of sleep causes Lee Joon’s dark circles droop all the way down to his chin. Then, he explained:

“Because I’ve suffocated way too many times, the dorm has been sold. Other than being suffocated, my condition is very good.”
