Birds are loved for their beautiful, bright plumage and their sweet songs that remind us that winter will soon be leaving. We admire their faith and loyalty as many birds form tight loving bonds and many mate for life.
In China, birds are often associated with good news. Knocking down nesting birds or hurting birds is frowned on and is reputed to bring bad luck upon a house, but when a bird dropping falls on your head, it's a sign of good luck.
Birds also have specific meanings in feng shui and when displayed in the home can bring about recognition and renown, love and fidelity, and even inspire a departed lover to return.
Birds, though, delicate are power symbols in feng shui and can bring delightful results when placed in the home or office.
A friend of mine had a daughter searching for a scholarship to college and placed a toy bird that chirped when she squeezed it into her daughter's room. Every day she went into her daughter's room and squeezed the bird while visualizing the offers of scholarships. The daughter got her wish in spades - receiving a full scholarship and to a prestigious university.
The examples below give you some ideas about the wide variety of birds and their symbolic qualities. Try using these bird tips to bring you great feng shui benefits worth crowing about!
Attract good news with a flock.
Ready for good news to come to you? Display a figure or picture of a flock of birds. Birds represent good and happy news with their chattering and beautiful chirping. Place the birds in the sector where you would like good news - such as the north for business or career opportunity, the southwest for love, or the east for wonderful family or health news.
Cranes bring power and prominence.
Sometimes the best way to beat the competition is simply to outlast them. Cranes are associated with longevity and wisdom. They often represented Chinese emperors and, thus, high positions of power. Display one in your office to represent prestige, power and authority.
The Wish-Granting bird can help make dreams come true.
There is a technique for making your wishes come true and that involves using a drawing of a bird tied with your wish. (See picture at right. Be sure to open the download that came with this issue for your own Wish Fulfilling Bird drawing!)
If you want to sell your house, draw a picture of a bird and have it holding a string with a price tag in its beak. Put the price you want for your house on the price tag. Display the bird by the front door and make it appear to be flying OUT the door.
If you want your lover to return or have something you want to attract, such as a wish for a new job or a new car, draw a picture of a bird with a string in its mouth and attach a picture of your lover or whatever you want attached to the string. Make the bird appear to be flying INTO the house.
Regardless of how you use the bird, just make sure that problems fly OUT the house and good things fly IN!
The phoenix draws the luck of popularity and renown.
Napoleon Hill, the famous author of Think and Grow Rich always referred to success as being both rich and popular. Being known helps you to be recognized and people are magnetized to you. The phoenix is the bird that brings great popularity and fame. Displaying a phoenix, or even a peacock or rooster, will bring you recognition, prominence and prestige. Place these birds in the south corner of recognition and social status.
Geese symbolize fidelity and marital happiness.
Worried about a wondering spouse? Display a picture of a pair of geese. Geese shown together signifies a happy marriage - the kind outsiders can't disrupt. If you are trying to coax a proposal out of a suitor, displaying a picture of a pair of geese will inspire your suitor to get down on one knee. Geese are also appropriate symbols for couples who spend too much time apart and helps them to spend more time together.
Bats bring good fortune.
Technically not a bird, but rather a flying mammal, bats are very auspicious and often seen in Chinese prints and designs. Their presence in designs on fabrics, paintings, or decorative objects represents happiness, prosperity, and a happy life with few difficulties. If bats show up at your house, this is an extremely auspicious omen, so be sure to welcome them!
Birds of a feather, love being together.
If you want a happy relationship, there are many birds to choose from to symbolize loving togetherness. Swans, lovebirds, the dragon and phoenix, or the ever-popular Mandarin duck pairs. Display any of these birds in pairs in your home in the southwest corner, or wherever the number 4 love and romance star flies (north for 2010), in your bedroom, office, or living room in the southwest love corner of those rooms.
Eagles offer protection.
If you are concerned about your company, home, or business, select a figure or picture of an eagle. Placed at the entrance to your home or business, an eagle will offer great protection to all who enter there by keeping a watchful eye over the premises.
