HOW THE PACHIRA CAME TO BE CALLED THE MONEY PLANT

Common names: Money tree, Malabar Chestnut, Guiana Chestnut, Provision tree, Saba Nut

Chinese name: 馬拉巴栗
Scientific name: Pachira aquatica

How it came to be called Money tree:
The name "money tree" seems to refer to a story of its origin, where a poor man prayed for money, found this "odd" plant, took it home as an omen, and made money selling plants grown from its seeds.
However, there is another reason of why it is called Money Tree.  Some say that is is because of the fact that it has five leaves on each branch, symbolising the 5 fundamental Feng Shui elements : Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth. The tree is also very commonly found to be made up of 5 intertwined trees. Since this kind of plant symbolizes good wealth, nowadays, people believe not only it brings green color into your room, but also bring luck and fortune to any household, business or people you care.
