COMMON PEPEROMIA


I am sure that many of you in Malaysia would have seen this herb before.  Many would have considered as a weed as it can be found growing near the drains and by the roadside.  As a matter of fact, it can be found in most of our gardens.  In Malay it is known as ketumpangan or tumpang air.
It can be eaten as a vegetable and is also used a a medicinal herb.  The plant can be eaten raw or cooked.  You can actually buy it from the small time Chinese farmers who sell their produce at the wet markets in Malaysia.  It is considered a Yang Herb by the Chinese.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE COMMON PEPEROMIA

Common Name :Common Peperomia

Scientific name : Peperomia pellucida

Malay name : Ketumpangan Air

Family : Pepper family (Piperaceae)

Medicinal uses: To treat glaucoma and eye diseases

How to use:

1.Use the whole plant (4-5 mature plants).

2.Use Chinese Wolfberry (3 table spoons).

3.Use brown sugar (1 table spoon).

Method :

1.Put 4 bowls of water in a pot.

2.Put peperomia plants, Chinese wolfberry and brown sugar into the pot.

3.Boil the water.  When the water is boiled, let it simmer over a slow fire.

4.Boil in slow fire till 8/10 of a bowl.

5.Drink the tea when cool.

Prescription

1.Drink every two days.

2.There should be improvement after a week.

3.Continue until cured.

4.During the course, you could be expected to get watery eyes.

Other uses of Common Peperomia

1.Can be eaten raw (use it as ulam/salad)

2.Can be fried as vegetable.
