The White Tiger Deity
Prayer set to appease the White Tiger Deity
The paper cut out to represent the 'little person' or troublemaker
Some of the paper cuttings would be stuck onto the wall
Instead I went to the Paloh Ku Miu or the Tua Pek Kong Temple in Ipoh Old Town this afternoon and prayed to the White Tiger Deity there for protection. Early in the morning, I went and consulted an expert about a good day to carry out the ritual. The lady told me that today was a suitable date and so off I went to the temple.
I paid RM6.00 for the prayer set and the lady at the counter helped me to fill in my particulars on the prayer paper. Later I was asked to light the joss-sticks and place them on all the urns in the temple. Then one of the temple volunteers, an old uncle, helped conduct the ritual of appeasing the White Tiger Deity. After he read out my particulars, he asked the Tiger Deity to give me blessings and protection against misfortunes and troublemakers. After that he used a sword and hit the prayer papers 7 times. He stuck a few bits of the paper onto the wall. Then I was told to take out my shoe and hit a paper cutting of a human figure 7 times to ward off troublemakers or 'little mean people'. Then I was told to burn the rest of the prayer set in the furnace.
